Natural Beauty In Your Own Backyard
Our Philosophy
Built for the way things grow here
From enhancing natural habitats to crafting tidy, functional designs, Rogue Rose blends comfort and ecology to turn your yard into the garden of your dreams. Let us help you create a space where nature thrives and you feel truly at home.
Ecology first
We start underground. Healthy soil, coastal-native plants, and habitat for pollinators are the foundation every design grows from, not decoration added at the end. Built that way, with local stone and permeable ground, a Rogue Rose garden asks less of you each year and gives more back.
Made to fit your budget
A beautiful garden shouldn’t hinge on a big budget. Tell us what you’re working with and we’ll shape the plan around it. We can phase the work, focus on what matters most, and find a way to make it happen. We’d rather build the right thing at your pace than oversell you on day one.
Rooted here
We’re local to Vancouver Island and design for its soils, its dry summers, and the plants that truly belong on this coast. A garden built for where it stands settles in faster, needs less coaxing, and looks like it was always meant to be there.
Our Process
How your garden comes to life
Every project moves through the same four seasons of work, from the first walk around your yard to a garden that hums with its own life. Deer, dry summers, winter rain and thin rocky soil shape every garden around Nanaimo, and we plan for all four from the first sketch.

Irwin Street plan: native gardens, an edible hedge, raised beds and a meditation garden Design
A plan rooted in your land
Every project starts on paper: walking your site, listening to how you live outdoors, and drawing a garden that fits both. No templates, just a plan as specific as your address.
- Native plant gardens
- Pollinator habitat
- Deer-resistant planting
For the wild: Native plant palettes and pollinator corridors are drawn in from the very first sketch.

Structure that belongs in a garden
Rock walls, pathways, patios, fences, and pergolas are the bones that make an outdoor space livable. We build them to sit in the landscape rather than on top of it.
- Retaining & rock walls
- Patios & pathways
- Fences & pergolas
- Irrigation
- Dry creek beds
For the wild: Local stone and permeable surfaces, so the land underneath keeps breathing.

From drawing to living garden
Planting day is the turning point: soil built up, beds shaped, and every plant set the way the plan intended, then given what it needs to take hold.
- Soil building
- Drought-tolerant planting
- Rain gardens
For the wild: Soil comes first. We plant for the roots and the life underground, not just the photo.

A garden that gets better every year
Naturalistic gardens aren’t set-and-forget. They’re guided. Seasonal care keeps the balance: editing, feeding, and letting the right wildness happen.
- Spring & fall cleanups
- Pruning
- Seasonal care
For the wild: Pruning and cleanup timed around nesting birds and overwintering pollinators.
